Festival Circuit/Sundance Wrap and SXSW Preview
SHOOT connects with select filmmakers who have features and shorts slated for this year’s SXSW Fest, as well as those who scored impressively at the recently concluded Sundance Film Festival. Our Sundance recap includes two SHOOT New Directors Showcase alums, A.V. Rockwell (2017 NDS) whose A Thousand and One won Sundance's Dramatic Grand Jury Prize, and Charlotte Regan who won the fest's World Cinema Grand Jury Prize winner for Scrapper. As for what's in store at SXSW, lauded filmmaker Dawn Porter discusses The Lady Bird Diaries, her groundbreaking documentary that uses Lady Bird Johnson's audio diaries to tell the story of one of the most influential and least understood First Ladies in history. (Porter is with INSTITUTE for commercials and branded content.) Director Scott Lazer marks his second straight year with a short film at SXSW. Last year it was the narrative short, West By God. This year, it's Ball People, a documentary short. (Lazer is with production company Pomp & Clout for commercials and music videos). And director Kimberly Stuckwisch, an alum of SHOOT's 2022 New Directors Showcase, has landed a music video at SXSW for the third consecutive year--this time it's Pearl Derringer's "Little Baby" (featuring Margo Price).
