Chat Room Inteview
Josh Margolin discusses his directorial debut, Thelma (Magnolia Pictures), which made a major splash on opening night at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The action-comedy stars June Squibb in the title role of a 93-year-old grandmother who is the victim of a phone scam. She embarks on a quest to get her money back. Thelma marks Squibb's first leading role in a feature. She's made her mark in supporting roles, most notably in Alexander Payne's Nebraska.
2024 Tribeca Festival
SHOOT connects with directors and producers ahead of their premiering films and television content--from shorts to feature-length and episodic fare--at the Tribeca Festival, which runs from June 5-16.
- Director Rodney Lucas makes his Tribeca debut with his documentary short Black Hercules, part of the festival's Unbought & Unbossed Shorts Program. Lucas makes his commercialmaking home at Little Minx.
- Director Michael Marantz's The White Rabbit is premiering at Tribeca. This marks the second time he has made the festival cut. Marantz, an alum of SHOOT's 2015 New Directors Showcase, is with production company m ss ng p eces.
- Director Dawn Porter's Luther: Never Too Much--which delves into the life of singer Luther Vandross--made the cut for Tribeca's Spotlight Documentary program. Porter is on the commercialmaking roster of INSTITUTE.
